Busy bee, this Sunday!

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

A reminder that our next busy bee will be held this Sunday, not Saturday; we’ve decided to rotate weekend days for those of you who work or have other weekend duties on Saturdays. So this is your chance to get down and dirty on the site!

We’re working on final plot allocations now, so if you’ve applied for one, this is a good time to show your involvement and help get the site ready so you can get gardening in your own plot.

The fun starts at 10am, and we’ll work until about 4pm. Come for an hour, come for the whole day – bring snacks and lunch, gumboots, tools, kids, dogs and we’ll provide tea, coffee extra tools and general good company. Post AFL Grand Final talk optional.
We’ll be holding a new members orientation from 11-11:30am, so if you haven’t been down before, this will be a good way to find out about how the MCCG started, what the garden will look like and how you can get the most out of being a part of it.

General jobs on the day will include: Finishing plot edging (a bit of woodwork), weeding, & mulching paths. We will be laying down newspaper and cardboard over the paths before putting mulch on top so whatever you do don’t recycle this week, bring these and reuse them instead down at the MCCG. We now have a water tank and a shed, and every working bee ends with the site looking more and more like a real garden.

Also – mark your diaries: Saturday October 9th is the next big day for the MCCG – following a morning’s busy bee, plots will be officially handed over to successful applicants!

Busy bee was busy!

A great day was had by all today. We installed the tank, built a shed, dug trenches, moved the fence line, weeded galore, and lots lots more!  Here’s some pics to show off our progress:

We have a tank!

Despite heavy rain and very boggy soil we managed to get the tank delivered and it’s not sitting next to where it needs to go. We just need to wheelbarrow the gravel from across the road to fill the base in… who’s keen to help this Saturday morning?

Plot applications extended until 15th September.

Just a quick note to say we’ve extended the deadline for plot applications for 2 weeks. The closing date is now Wednesday 15th September.
